5Very worthwhile purchase  Mar 07, 2010
Although we purchased this item slightly used, it works like new. It has been a tremendous help. Unlike the larger self-propelled gas snow throwers, this electric snow thrower must be pushed through the snow. With effort and practice, you'll be clearing snow as well as the larger units. We also purchased a 100 foot indoor/outdoor extension cord and a GFI outlet. It's easy to manage the cord outdoors, but a reel would be helpful for storing the long extension cord. The on/off switch on the handle is simple to use. When moving the machine backwards, you must hold the right or left side in order not to run the machine. It is so light and compact that it can be stored indoors. Because it is smaller capacity, it must be used cautiously so as not to break the drive belt. If you listen to the motor, you can tell immediately when you are attempting to clear too much snow at once. Just as clearing half-paths works with the larger snow throwers, it also works with this unit. As other reviews indicate, if you want to clear EOD snow, it works best to chop it first with a shovel, then clear a reasonable amount at a time. When the snow was more than a foot, I lifted the machine to skim off the top layer first, then cleared lower layers. While it has limited ability with slushy snow, it will throw the snow aside. Even without WD-40, the slushy snow clogged the chute only once and I used an ordinary wooden spoon handle to clear it. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase another one of these. This model is a wonderful time saver and easy to use. A great product!

I bought this unit before the big snow in February 2010.
I highly recommand it.

5TORO WOW  Mar 04, 2010
Right out of the box in 15 minutes I was blowing snow. 100 foot drive and parking area. What took 4 hours to shovel was clear to the asphalt in less than a hour. Had a amaller model previously but this one sure moves the snow 30+ feet with ease. even heavy wet snow with ice and sleet thrown in. Great electric model snow thrower and its almost maintenance free.

1Total garbage!!!  Mar 03, 2010
I bought the Toro 1800 Powercurve last year at Amazon. Got a good deal on the product and wanted a lightweight snowthrower to clear off the front steps and my wood deck. I figured a gas snowblower would be too heavy and damage the stone steps and wood deck. I took this out of the box this year, worked for 5 minutes. Then I smelled burning rubber and the rotor stopped. Opened the side panel to find the belt jumped and started to fray. After I contacted Toro, was told to retension the belt without instruction on how to do so. I did tighten the rotor and purchased new belts from Toro. My wife then used the machine - worked for 7 minutes and the same thing happened. This has been in the shop for the past 2 weeks - I'm eager to see if I'll get a replacement or refund as the snow is piling up this year and shovelling wasn't what I had in mind when I bought this. So far tremendous disappointment in the product and in Toro's customer service.

5Great Solution for the Right Type of Snow Conditions  Mar 03, 2010
I have owned the Toro 1800 for the entire 2009-2010 winter season. I live in Northen Virginia area and this winter has been record breaking! We normally receive a few snow storms that average 3-5 inches. This year, we have received feet upon feet of snow and the Toro 1800 has powered through without breakdown. Despite the heavy snow, the Toro 1800 has performed much better than I ever expected. In my opinion, the Toro 1800 is meant more for our typical winter conditions and not what we experienced this year. It's electric and limited by the length of the cord and availability of power. Lose power and your back to the shovel. The cord tends to get in the way until you develope a good technique. It's small with very small wheels that limit its mobility in deep snow and extremly low temps. It uses a plastic rather than metal impellar limiting the amount of and type of snow it can clear and throw at one time. When clearing more than 3-5 inches of "wet" snow the chute tends to clog. If the snow is "dry", the Toro 1800 can easily handle twice the amount snow at a much quicker walking pace. The Toro 1800 is only suitable to clear average size driveways and sidewalks due to the size of it's wheels and power cord limitations. It worked great for me this year. However, if it snowed around here on the normal basis like it did this year, I would have purchased a much different snow thrower. That snow thrower would have been gas-powered, two-stage, with large tires................and would have cost me nearly five times as much money.
